Western Australia’s Newest Community Orchestra
Northern Lights Music W.A.
at a Glance
Exciting new and vibrant community orchestra, established 2020.
Our orchestra aims to provide opportunities for young musicians, and those not so young but young at heart, to grow in experience, confidence and enjoyment through orchestral participation. Likewise, our orchestra aims to provide the local community with opportunity to enjoy orchestral performances that are fun, affordable and accessible.
Northern Lights Music (NLM) will provide a safe and enjoyable place to grow musically and in confidence through orchestral and ensemble playing. NLM welcomes members of the community both young and young at heart, those who have been playing just a few years, those who have been playing somewhat longer, and those who may not have played in quite some time. It is a place for individuals and for families to enjoy making quality music together, a place to be encouraged and to encourage.
Primo welcomes all level 4 and above musicians with some experience to join. Secondo is our training orchestra. We welcome anyone and everyone with little or no experience.
All music arrangements are specific to the individuals within each orchestra to allow for inclusion of everyone no matter their experience. Both Primo and Secondo rehearse on Thursday evenings at 7pm at Emerald Park Clubrooms, Edgewater.
South is open to all levels with two levels within one orchestra and training within the orchestra.
Beginner Ensemble is suitable for beginners of all ages and those early in the music journey.
All music arrangements are specific to the individuals within each orchestra to allow for inclusion of everyone no matter their experience. Rehearsals are held on Sunday afternoons at 2pm at Rockingham Mandurah Lutheran Church, Warnbro.
So why Northern Lights Music? Jennylynne wanted to create a safe and enjoyable place, accessible to all, no matter their age, ability, or background, a place where family members can make music together, those who like the sense of community, who like passing on their knowledge to the next generation of musicians. And a place where we can share the love of music with the community in which we live. A place to belong. That place is Northern Lights Music.
Why Northern Lights Music? Since moving down to Mandurah and now Rockingham, Hannah has seen the lack of opportunity for music involvement within the community. Having taught down that way for years, Hannah noticed that there wasn’t anywhere for her students to further develop their music or connect with like-minded musicians. So she decided to do something about it. Northern Lights Music is that something.
As a non-profit organisation, Northern Lights Music hopes to encourage all to show their interest. The half-yearly fee structure will help cover the costs of music licensing, insurance, venue hire, purchase of scores, purchase of instruments as well as allowing us to offer scholarships to members of the community.
There is no application or audition fee.
